Remembering Billy "The Mountain" Cairns on his birthday!
Billy Cairns was our drummer in the Freelance Vandals, besides being my close friend, he was also so adept on his drum skins that he could overwhelm any other drummer.
I first met Billy when we were both students @ The University of Dayton. My favorite memory of Billy is when I first met him at an off-campus party. I had gone upstairs to use the bathroom and when I came out of the bathroom this huge figure of a man came plunging out of the shadows in the hallway. Billy then grabbed me by the shoulders and threw me down the stairs while yelling, "Hey! I could play drums with you y'know!" As I lay at the bottom of the stairs I looked up at Billy and said, “Your hired!”
