Throughout the 90s and into the new century Gene and the evolving line-up of Sharks men were the house band at The Wild Rose Cafe, a Bridgehampton night spot where packed houses danced to the roots rock and swing. Gene’s original music emerged periodically to great acclaim and local and international indie radio play. Several of Gene’s roots-drenched songs have been used on the soundtracks to television and feature films, including “Justified” and “Sons of Anarchy” ; the 2012 thriller “The Tall Man” starring Jessica Biel, the 2013 release “The Killing Season” starring Robert DeNiro, and Rob Reiner’s acclaimed “Being Charlie”. Selections from the album and those preceding were featured at a wildly successful concert at the prestigious Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Please join us for an evening of rock and roll and giving back to the community - our annual Holiday Happening! This year, we're hosting a Rock N' Roll Jamboree featuring performances by The LI Hornets (red hot rockabilly featuring Jenna Salm), Studio B (a brand new Western swing band) and a set by the NYRMA All-Stars that pays tribute to the " Million Dollar Quartet ."
Just to be clear, we're not paying tribute to the broadway musical of the same name, but to the four legends who came together on December 4th, 1956 at Sun Studios in Memphis, TN - Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and, of course, Elvis Presley! As usual, the NYMRA All-Stars ( Dave Wise, Johnny Cola, Steve Kaplan, Don Olsen, Tom Hopkins, Howard Silverman, Mark Mancini and Tom Ryan ) will back a cavalcade of talent featuring vocal performances by Annie Mark, Tom Pfeifer, Terry Day, Michele Sivori, Steve Prisco, Jim Treutlein, Allen Santoriello, Mike Drance, Jessica Upham, Bill Shuren, Tom Gould, Roy Wilson, Pete Mancini, Eamonn Bowles, Gil McLean and Raecine Coles.
All of these generous performers have donated their time and talent and all proceeds from the show will be donated to local charities. We are also asking attendees to bring along a donation of healthy, non-perishable food to be collected by RockCANRoll, and any gently-used coats that you may have in your closet that will be distributed to those in need. For most the holiday season is one of joy and comfort. However for many of our friends and neighbors on Long Island, the holidays bring extra stress into their lives as they are dealing with the struggles of making ends meet. While the money, food and coats we will collect and distribute will not end their problems, your contributions will make a real and positive impact in someone's life. So come out and join us in an evening of rock and roll as we give back to the community and help our neighbors in need!
The show will take place at 8PM (doors open at 7PM) on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 at the American Legion Post 360, located at 1 Mill Dam Road, in Huntington, NY. About the film:
A child of immigrants, Marshall battled inner demons and fought his way to become one of the most trusted mavericks to emerge from the latter half of the 20th century. A passion for music first drew Marshall to capture the influencers transforming the stage, from jazz greats to Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and the Rolling Stones. His abrasive but honest approach to his subjects combined with his incredible skill to build trust expanded his portfolio beyond celebrities, documenting both the ‘60s music scene and the seismic social changes that shaped the turbulent decade. An icon in his own right, Marshall was the man with five Leica M4s hanging around his neck.
